Another quarter of the year has gone which means it’s time for another update! Hair. It’s the thing that grows on your head, that helps keep the heat in, that can add another dimension to a look. And when you lose it, voluntarily like me, you re-think what it means to you. You think about a lot of stuff really. In fact, you just realise that hair is more than just hair.

You’ve seen the girls (and boys) who are wearing a headwrap and you just think to yourself….”How in the hell?” The wrap defies gravity, the folds are impossible, the colours and patterns are otherworldly. At least that’s what I thought, so whenever I wore one I kept it super simple. I was scared to experiment and find out what I could do. I’m all for DIYing my way to super long, healthy, luscious locks but honestly the initial outlay in getting all the ingredients you need to make your own products can be a little scary.You look at a little essential oil bottle and can’t believe you’re spending £3, £5, even up to £10 on 10 ml of anything. And that’s before you start looking at the exotic stuff.

It’s been well over a year since I chose to go bald. I have hit  the milestone of 1 whole year and 3 months. And I’m not bored of this whole healthy hair blogging thing. That’s a long time. But also really short in the context of me being on a journey to tailbone length hair. And yes, I am still aiming for that ridiculous and lofty goal. I’m expecting to get there by 2025, give or take a year. I’d be happy for it to happen at some point this millennia if I’m honest.

And what a year to say goodbye to! My first full year of blogging done. The first year of my healthy hair journey done. My skin looking better than it has in I can’t even remember, yes! Feeling happier and more confident going into 2018 than I could’ve imagined. Let’s see how I can make 2018 more. I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions and I don’t normally do deep reflection but I’ll do a little of both…for posterity. Not because I’m a cliché or anything.

I hadn’t envisaged having to take out a braid to do my length check. I definitely hadn’t thought through the timing of installing my first set of braids either. I was a bit busy in November so this post is a little late. But November 1st 2017 marked 1 year since I shaved all my hair off and felt the cool winter breeze blowing over my scalp. I have to admit I miss those few days of baldy baddie life! It really was such a short time. I suppose I could just shave it all off again! Ideas…

I’m 75% of the way into my 1st year of my healthy hair journey and journey to tailbone length. Hair was measured on the 1st of the month and I can say with complete honesty that I was disappointed. I was at 8.5cm (3.3 inches) which means I had fallen short of the roughly 1 centimetre a month that I had been gaining faithfully up to this point. I know partly why this might be happening. My hair is getting longer which means it is more prone to knot leading to it needing a bit more detangling and manipulation. As…

I know the perils of hair envy. I have hair envy especially with my hair being so short and where I am wanting it to go. You see all of these beautiful women (and men) with small Afros, medium-sized Afros and Quann Sister size Afros and I think these are all points on my own personal hair journey that I can’t wait to get to.
