I recently let you know that I’ve been living my best life in chunky twists but there’s nothing better than when you get into a funk than to change your hair. And as someone who wears box braids fairly regularly, it’s a great non-damaging-ish way to quickly change up your look. And if it’s purple…even better!
When I started my journey, I was all for DIYing. I had very high aspirations for how much I was going to make for myself. There were going to be shampoos, conditioners, leave ins, deep conditioners, gels. I was going to do it all.
It’s occurred to me that this post is being scheduled so close to Christmas, so any family or friends if you’re reading this, I will still accept new products as presents.
I remember coming across Jim + Henry very early on in my healthy hair journey. I’m not sure when the other products were introduced to the brand but I clearly remember seeing Eight and thinking, wow! That’s the kind of hair care I aspire to own and use! And finally, in 2020, it’s mine…mwahahaha!
Four whole years. Four whole years. FOUR WHOLE YEARS. I could keep saying it but it still wouldn’t sound real. I’ve committed to something for four whole years. And I’m still enjoying it (on the most part). And I’m finding success (even though I’ve redefined what that is a few times). But whew, four whole years. Type 4 hair is no joke!
A little while ago, I mentioned that I thought I was on my way to getting the right combo of products and methods to detangle my kids hair. Well here’s a little detangling update.

New year, new you, new hair! Why not?
I always looked at people with curly hair like my kids have and thought, damn, they’ve got it easy. Detangling with those loose curls is a breeze compared to my coarse, Brillo pad hair. My mother was the first person to make the Brillo pad comment and it has stuck. I am scarred.
Have you heard of British Curlies? Well, if you haven’t it’s unfortunately too late. They’ve closed down. So I made the most of that and got myself some goodies. I don’t know if by the time this post is published whether the shop will still have stock but give it a go – Shop British Curlies.
