Length Check – 18 Months – More Than Hair

Another quarter of the year has gone which means it’s time for another update! Hair. It’s the thing that grows on your head, that helps keep the heat in, that can add another dimension to a look. And when you lose it, voluntarily like me, you re-think what it means to you. You think about a lot of stuff really. In fact, you just realise that hair is more than just hair.

Twist Fail: Last Night A Beanie Saved My Life

This is my first official twisting of my hair since I shaved it all off in November 2016. I say official, because I have twisted it as a way to section my hair before braiding a couple of times. But this was the first time it was the intended style. Although it took me a little getting used to, I really liked it! I liked how it felt to run my hand through my hair. And it also felt great knowing that this protective style was going to keep my hair moisturised and well looked after for at least a couple…

Length Check – 1 Year 3 Months

It’s been well over a year since I chose to go bald. I have hit  the milestone of 1 whole year and 3 months. And I’m not bored of this whole healthy hair blogging thing. That’s a long time. But also really short in the context of me being on a journey to tailbone length hair. And yes, I am still aiming for that ridiculous and lofty goal. I’m expecting to get there by 2025, give or take a year. I’d be happy for it to happen at some point this millennia if I’m honest.

Length Check – One Year

I hadn’t envisaged having to take out a braid to do my length check. I definitely hadn’t thought through the timing of installing my first set of braids either. I was a bit busy in November so this post is a little late. But November 1st 2017 marked 1 year since I shaved all my hair off and felt the cool winter breeze blowing over my scalp. I have to admit I miss those few days of baldy baddie life! It really was such a short time. I suppose I could just shave it all off again! Ideas…

Progress Check – September 2017

If you saw my last post you’ll know that I started a little craft project up in my hair. I’m still not sure how I feel about that but it’s all in aid of getting a head full of good, healthy hair. Progress is key, no matter how small. I will have to come to terms with the fact that in order for me to get to my desired length (#journeytotailbonelength), I will need to lose some hair. Anyway, there have been other goings on in the journey from being Woeful and getting to FroFull. Here’s the rundown…

Snip, Snip, Snip: Why Trimming Is Fundamental

Trimming. I didn’t want to do it. I really didn’t want to do it. I even went on a forum asking if my “symptoms” meant I actually needed to trim. I knew they did, I just didn’t want to admit it. I DID NOT WANT TO TRIM MY HAIR. Especially since the fro was looking frolicious at my last length check.

Length Check – 9 Months

I’m 75% of the way into my 1st year of my healthy hair journey and journey to tailbone length. Hair was measured on the 1st of the month and I can say with complete honesty that I was disappointed. I was at 8.5cm (3.3 inches) which means I had fallen short of the roughly 1 centimetre a month that I had been gaining faithfully up to this point. I know partly why this might be happening. My hair is getting longer which means it is more prone to knot leading to it needing a bit more detangling and manipulation. As…

#hairgoals

I know the perils of hair envy. I have hair envy especially with my hair being so short and where I am wanting it to go. You see all of these beautiful women (and men) with small Afros, medium-sized Afros and Quann Sister size Afros and I think these are all points on my own personal hair journey that I can’t wait to get to. I try to keep my outright jealousy mild envy in check by using these images and people as inspiration. My hair is my hair, it will never be their hair but it’s always nice to…

Feeling A Little Hope

It’s been a long day, there are bits in my hair, the bags under my eyes are full, my legs feel like lead, the kids have gone feral and I’ve still got a few hours of housework before bed BUT my hair is growing, no more cat fights for me because it’s long enough to grab now and I am grateful that it looks a bit of a mess because that means I have enough hair to be messy. This journey is going to be long but I see a very, very small light at the end of the tunnel.…

The Inversion Method Part 1 – Upside Down You’re Turning Me…

I came across the Inversion Method on Pinterest because people claiming they can grow their hair 1 inch in 1 week is pin worthy indeed. And yes, that is what they claim. Obviously you can’t verify the timeframe of people’s before and after. But as there doesn’t seem to be a wonder product that’s being advertised, I can’t see why people would lie. Oh how gullible I am! I suppose it could be a conspiracy between all the hair oil companies in the world. However, I’ll try not to be too cynical. There are a lot more people out there…
