The First 4 Weeks

So 4 weeks ago, I went through with chopping all my hair off and deciding to try to be a better me. I thought I knew what this entailed but it is going to be a much longer journey than I think I could have ever anticipated. This is a lifelong change that confirms to me that your life is a work in progress. Let’s look at the main things I’ve been working on.

Braids 2021: April Ombre

I recently let you know that I’ve been living my best life in chunky twists but there’s nothing better than when you get into a funk than to change your hair. And as someone who wears box braids fairly regularly, it’s a great non-damaging-ish way to quickly change up your look. And if it’s purple…even better!

#hairgoals 2

I did my first one of these posts in May 2017. Wow! I’ve been at this hair journey and blogging thing for a while. In the time since that last post, I’ve found more and more curly, coily and kinky sources of inspiration for me and my kids.

Re-Reading My Blog (First Month)

By the time this post goes live, I will have been blogging for over 4 years. That’s a long time and it has flown by so fast, especially this last year. I was at a bit of a loose end with blog stuff so I decided to read some old posts. First thing to note, my intention was to re-read, edit, spruce up all of my blog to date. At the time of writing this, that would have been 46 months worth of blog content. In reality, that was a much bigger task than I could’ve anticipated. Way, way bigger!…

Braid Removal: A Pictorial

I can’t even remember when I actually had these particular braids in. But when I was looking through the blog for ideas I came across these photos saved in the gallery. So we are going to just go with that! My hair is currently in mini twists. It’s low maintenance and when I swish my head side to side, my hair comes with me. It’s a nice feeling that people with straight or loose curls most likely take for granted. I have the movement of box braids without the weight and hassle but then again I don’t have the length!…

*REPOST* End Of Bottle Review: Palmer’s Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioners

***This is my blog’s most viewed post and unsurprisingly it is one of my favourite products on my journey so far. I’m in a bit of a blogging slump, possibly because I know I’ll be taking some time off in a few weeks and my mind is already ready to shut down. But while I’m finding my way again, I thought I’d repost the post that keeps me going. It literally makes up about 20% of my total views at the moment! So if you’ve not read this post yet, give it a go. It’s a really good one, even…

How I Got My Braids (pt. 1)

You may have come to this post via my Instagram feed where you will know how this chapter of my hair story ends but if not, this is a shameless plug for my Instagram page! Have you had box braids/ plaits/ extensions before? I have and I love them. I’ve missed them so much. And now my hair is long enough for me to give my old favourite go-to a go.

End Of Tub Review: As I Am Coconut CoWash – Cleansing Cream Conditioner

This is a product that my lovely mother bought for me on one of her trips to the US. She’s been there a few times in the last couple of years without me, may I add, no bitterness…at all. I was so excited to crack this open would be an understatement. There are lots of products in lots of lists of the best conditioner, the best co-wash, this and that. I don’t want to be guided by others on MY journey of discovery. I couldn’t ignore all the positive reviews of this product. And the fact that my Mum paid…

#hairgoals

I know the perils of hair envy. I have hair envy especially with my hair being so short and where I am wanting it to go. You see all of these beautiful women (and men) with small Afros, medium-sized Afros and Quann Sister size Afros and I think these are all points on my own personal hair journey that I can’t wait to get to. I try to keep my outright jealousy mild envy in check by using these images and people as inspiration. My hair is my hair, it will never be their hair but it’s always nice to…

Week 3: My Old Hair Care Routine vs My New Hair Care Routine (Part 2)

Okay, I won’t be needing the wide tooth comb, or any comb, anytime soon. I’m looking forward to when I do though! Week three and counting…I was previously talking about my routine, my old bad habits, the things I want to do going forward, the so-called rules of good hair and also the new techniques and terms that I’ve learnt. To that end, I will pick up where I left off.
