Whipping It Up: Cocoa Butter

After the “success” of my whipped Shea Butter, I thought I’d give Cocoa Butter a go. Why not? I mean, it smells like chocolate-y goodness. Surely it would work out almost exactly the same. One butter is the same as another? Yea..

Whipping It Up: Shea Butter

I’m all for DIYing my way to super long, healthy, luscious locks but honestly the initial outlay in getting all the ingredients you need to make your own products can be a little scary. You look at a little essential oil bottle and can’t believe you’re spending £3, £5, even up to £10 on 10 ml of anything. And that’s before you start looking at the exotic stuff.

Spritz Me Baby One More Time

I’ve been looking for an easy and effective leave-in spray for myself and the kids. Plus I am really into the idea of making as many of my own products for my hair as possible. I wasn’t sure how to start so I went to my favourite place after Google…Pinterest. I had a picture of a leave-in spray saved on one of my boards and as I had all the ingredients in my cupboard, there was no reason not to try it. It says that it is a great recipe to keep curls defined overnight which obviously isn’t an issue…

 Just A Quick ACV Update

So the last time I used Apple Cider Vinegar I was an ACV virgin. I’m definitely not an expert now but my second attempt was a massive success. This time I mixed it with the Palmer’s Olive Oil Formula Smoothing Shampoo. The initial plan going into wash day was to put the shampoo, vinegar and some water into a spray bottle and mist myself. However when I got into the shower it was just taking too long to get from bottle to follicle. Instead I ended up taking the sprayer off and dousing myself with it. Massaged it in,  went…

DIY Beauty Products: My First Time

One of the things going on a journey like mine has shown me, is that the you can make almost any product you put on your skin or hair yourself. So I challenged myself to make the gift sets I would normally buy as Christmas presents for my family. I scoured my Pinterest board and came up with a shortlist of things to attempt. Scrubs, lotions and hair creams where my goal, I gave myself a couple of days and off I went to make The Woeful To FroFull Christmas Pampering range. I did have to buy a lot of…

Apple Cider Vinegar Stinks!

It really does! I had  read a few articles about ACV (another abbreviation to learn). I read about how great it is at cleansing your hair of product buildup. Also in reducing frizz (not a massive problem when you’ve less than an inch of hair) and adding shine. Some even use this exclusively to wash their hair when they feel the buildup is too much. There was excitement to try it and add to my regimen. Then I opened the bottle and was horrified that anyone expected me to put that in my hair. “The smell goes away,” they say.…

You Can Learn Almost Everything From Pinterest

I had long blue extensions on the day I got married. I used the full pack of Kanekalon extensions without cutting them so they pretty much touched my bum. That’s what I want my actual hair to be like. I know this journey to tailbone length will be difficult but I really want it! It almost feels silly saying it aloud but I really, really want my own long hair (which I will probably turn blue at some point, weakening and destroying all my hard work blah, blah, blah…but I want it!) In the preparation to start my journey I…

Now I Know My Hair…(cont’d)

Now where was I… So that miracle oil, coconut oil may not actually be a miracle for me with my low porosity follicles. Which is a great shame as I have about 14 jars on top of a cupboard in my house. Oops! So some say it is too heavy for my type of hair but I honestly say I am on the fence about it. I’ve had no ill effects using it, I quite like it, not just how it makes my hair feel but, and this may make me a bit of a freak, I like melting it…

Can You Make A Plastic Cap Look Cute? I Certainly Can’t!

I tried though, I really tried. It’s just like those sexy satin scarves we wear to bed, so-not-that-cute but completely essential. We are invested in our journey so a few hours with your eyes closed in the dark not looking like a supermodel are well worthwhile. That is not me saying that I look like a supermodel but you get me. The last few weeks I have been learning the amazing benefits of deep conditioning using the gorgeous plastic caps you can see me modelling and it really does make a difference. I’ve spent my life with neglected, dry hair.…

Now I Know My Hair…

I have a greater understanding of my hair now, after some tests I am pretty sure I have fine hair, low to medium density hair and low porosity hair. This a new world to me and I need to learn what all of it means. The main thing I am focusing on at the moment is the low porosity and making sure I am using the right kinds of products to keep my hair healthy, soft and moisturised. The low porosity of my hair means that the cuticles are laying flat making it much harder for moisture to penetrate, hence…

Week 2: My Old Hair Care Routine vs My New Hair Care Routine (Part 1)

As you can see, I’m making some real progress here. It’s crazy that the photos I took to announce my baldness to the world, beautifully taken by my lovely husband, are now out of date. I had that look for such a short amount of time, I’m not even sure if it was worth going THAT short. But it was fun while it lasted. I do not think my hair growth rate is even close to half an inch a month (average for everyone) but we will plod on regardless because I have no other choice. Now I am emerging…
