Speed Reviews #2

I’ve tried a lot of products over the years, so many in fact, that I look at curly hair websites and think, “Ooo, it might be nice to give that a try!” to something I’ve already tried, dismissed and forgotten about! I guess that’s where being a product junkie gets you…but it also gets me a sh*t load of content for reviews so here we are again!

Curly Q’s Gel-les’c

My first gripe with this product is the name, like what the actual hell? Did the fact that they had to explain the joke in brackets underneath not give away that it might not be as clever as they thought? I mean was GELousy a consideration at least, and even that makes my right eye twitch.
Anyhoo, I’m still a novice when it comes to gel. And when it comes to laying edges…don’t get me started.
This was used when I was looking to find a better detangling method for my kids. It’s a really runny gel, which is not what I expected. However, it left no flakes and smelt like a hair salon.
My eldest who has the thickest and driest hair had the poorest results. Her dry hair just felt drier. Perhaps I needed a thicker oil or leave in when using something like this on her hair or use on wetter hair.
My middle son with less hair and a coilier texture’s hair shrunk right up but his coils were more prominent.
And finally my youngest got a nice mixture of curls and ringlets – to be fair his hair works quite well with just good old H2O!
Overall, it was a positive experience but any review I make of gels at the moment is skewed by the fact that I don’t think I actually know what I’m doing!

ORS Olive Oil Edge Control

I’m not going to go into too much detail here as I’ve just admitted to being a gel novice but I’ve never got this to work. I always think I’ve only tried it a few times but when I look in the tub, it’s half gone. Considering I always give up after slicking back about an inch of hair, should tell you how many times I’ve tried and failed. And honestly, I’m not going to keep doing it. It’s going in the bin. I hardly ever, almost never do that. But I just can’t make it work and honestly I don’t think I care enough to try. There’s nothing wrong with a little frizz, or those tiny little curls you get along your edges (although a pain to detangle) and yes, I live with what I have because I’m salty I can’t seem to get it to go any other way 😂 but it’s a big ass no from me!

Anita Grant Curl Conditioning Double Cream

What I said in Twitter in 2018 still stands to this day – I’m in love, so much so that this is one of the few products that I have bought again and that is a huge thing considering I’ve had so many products to try and review, I haven’t really had the opportunity to repeat but I felt like I had to because this was The One (well One of the Ones)!

It has an inoffensive scent, my hubby said he thought it smelt like Indian Sweets. I don’t know what he’s on about but I trust his nose over my own! But what I can say is that it’s not floral or sweet like another butter I love – Flora and Curl for example.

I got a referral code from them – just for shopping I think – that gets you some money off your order and gets me either some money off or loyalty points – I don’t even remember but if nothing else, it gets you to the Anita Grant website – here – plus I do also recommend their Bentonite Clay too if you’re making a purchase!

It has a beautifully smooth, dense, luxurious texture. I recently used the L’Occitane Divine Creme and it reminds me of that. Fancy! And when I say a little goes a long way, it does. The Double Cream is a bit pricier than I would like but you can make that ish last!

It’s classed as a leave in conditioner but I’ve used it as the L in my LCO and I’ve used it as my C…No complaints either time. I’m not sure which is the best way yet but they both work fantastically.

Camille Rose Turmeric Cleansing Bar

I paid £9 for this. I don’t know what came over me because I first saw this for sale on a US site for $0.99 but couldn’t find anything like in the UK. But here I am still using it in April 2021 after buying it in October 2020. The same bar. And my face hasn’t been better (I’m not attributing that solely to the soap but it’s a massive factor).
I would say, I was excited to try something with Turmeric because it supposedly helps with hyperpigmentation. I’m not sure it has but I’m happy nonetheless. Don’t worry about about staining, the lather is not yellow so turmeric must be minimal.
It’s a bar of soap, it’s simple, it gets my face clean, it lasts ages, it’s part of the routine that’s got me to the best skin I’ve had in forever, it’s Black owned, and it’s made it to my Holy Grail so…what else do you want me to say?!
This along with the Anita Grant cream are superstars. I expect to be using these for years to come, the soap at least. It’s like this bar will never end!
Let’s keep growing together!
