Wash Day Notes: Sometime From October 2020

So it was a bit optimistic to think that I would be able to do a blog post about my wash days every few weeks. Yea…no, that’s not going to happen. This feature will definitely be a once in a while sort of thing. But this one is kind of special. Because I’m using generic shampoo and conditioner, or more specifically, gift set Shampoo and Conditioner. Extra special due to it’s mundanity.

Enter Baylis & Harding. Who else gets these gift sets every Christmas? πŸŽ…πŸΎπŸŽ„πŸŽ…πŸΎ

Pre Poo: Cococado Oil

No this isn’t a new exotic oil you haven’t heard of! I mixed Coconut Oil and Avocado Oil with a 50:50 ratio. I’d never used Avocado Oil before creating this and I desperately wanted to get rid of the Coconut Oil that has been plaguing my life since I realised I didn’t like it anymore. It seems odd that I would use it given my feelings on Coconut Oil but I figured it’s going to be washed out so it should be ok? Well, the first time I used it, my hair went hard and stringy and made me regret every choice I’ve ever made.

So why use it again on this day? Because I don’t like waste and you know what? My hair felt smooth, detangled, soft and ready to wash this time. I’m very glad I gave it another go. I had it on my hair for about 6 hours under a plastic cap.

Shampoo: Baylis & Harding Sweet Mandarin & Grapefruit Revitalising Shampoo

It smells like bubble bath. I don’t know what makes it smell like bubble bath rather than just a fragranced liquid, but it smells like bubble bath. No denying it’s bubbly bath origins. Considering Baylis & Harding, to me anyway, are synonymous with hand wash and bubble bath, I was pretty convinced it was bubble bath. Have I said bubble bath enough yet?

I really loved the scent which I found to be quite strong, which is what you expect from bubble bath (sorry!). It smelt like the essential oil mix I added to my ACV rinse a few weeks earlier (lemon and grapefruit). I have to say I was surprised by how it worked, it felt like a moisturising shampoo which was the opposite of what I expected because I thought it would strip the hell out my hair. It didn’t cause or aggravate any tangles. It was quite a pleasant experience. And I’m pretty sure my hair was clean at the end which was the objective.

Conditioner: Baylis & Harding Sweet Mandarin & Grapefruit Nourishing Conditioner

The conditioner smelt the same as the shampoo but without the bubble bath undertones. Gave an adequate amount of slip while detangling but when I washed it out, my hair didn’t feel as good as it should after using a “nourishing conditioner”. In fact, it felt like I expected it would after using a shampoo. I’m pretty sure this wasn’t a cleansing conditioner so not sure what that was all about. And then my scalp started getting a little itchy…which must have come from the shampoo not the conditioner because we don’t put conditioner on are scalp, do we? But I liked the shampoo, so I’m perplexed πŸ˜•

Deep Conditioner: Garnier Ultimate Blends Hair Food 3-In-1 Hair Mask Coconut & Macadamia

Back to a tried and true. I love these hair masks – great price, easy to find, smells delicious, leaves hair feeling smoother, softer and moisturised. AND it can be used as a leave in too if you wish.

ACV Rinse (Essential Oils – Rosemary and Lavender)

Not sure exactly what it is about these rinses but my hair loves them. Although I do tend to throw in whatever essential oils my hand tends to land on.

Leave-In: Ivy Wild Moisturising Lotion

It feels a little on the thin side but has great slip and paired with the product below it’s a must have.

Cream: Ivy Wild Chebe Growth Cream

I won’t go on and on about it but this has made it to my Holy Grail. I really love it, I just hope I get through the tub before it’s shelf life expires (only 3 months!) as a little goes a long, long way!

Oil: DIY Oil Blend

I mainly think oils are just oils but just in case they’re not, I use this one inspired by Naptural85 because she’s The G.O.A.T 🐐 I swapped Avocado Oil for Marula and Grapeseed Oils because all my Avocado was living in my Cococado bottle.

Styled: Du Du / Doo Doo / Do Do Plaits (spelling to be confirmed)

As above but not exactly because the plaits are different every time I do them but basically this style. It’s definitely not glamorous but it’s simple, quick, easy, keeps me retaining moisture for a week or more with only the odd spritz needed, and lays flat under headwraps. It’s a win win for all us lazy naturals. A privilege of working from home and being seen by very few people. Yes, we have video chats at work. But I work in a team of men who probably wouldn’t notice one style to the next. I also have a lovely female manager who would notice but would be too kind to say something or she’d find a very nice way of asking me if I’m okay!

Body Lotion: Baylis & Harding Indulgent Moisturising Hand & Body Lotion

You might have noticed this in the picture above. Gift set Shampoo and Conditioner usually get shoved into the back of a cupboard and eventually given away with the school Harvest Festival donations and the lotions eventually get used as a hand lotion or disappear into the ether eventually. They’re usually watery and non-moisturising, in fact they seem to dry out my skin more, they just get your hands wet and you wonder why you keep making the same old mistakes by using them.

Turns out Baylis & Harding might know what they’re doing because my first impression on this body lotion was pretty good although it was very hard to rub in. Like, it took a whole while. And my skin might fall off tomorrow but for today, we good.

Notes…

All in all, it was a pretty good (wash) day. At the time of writing, the world was still in a state of turmoil and it looked like we were about to enter a bad winter. I was hunkering down for half term with my family, thinking of how to keep the kids entertained as the options of doing stuff outside of the home were limited. Hopefully by the time of publishing that will have changed, the powers that be will have come to their senses – fed the hungry children and steered us through a long, hard winter with it being less of a disaster than it was forecasted to be. πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ But honestly, who knows?

Let’s keep growing together!
