Song Of The Month – March 2019 – Blinded By The Lights by The Streets

LINK TO THE VIDEO Now when I went to see The Streets, I just went for something to do. I wasn’t a fan but a night out in Yorkshire with one of my very good, old friends, a gig and lots of alcohol, I was in! It didn’t take long for me to become a fan, about 10 minutes into the concert. They were so different live than what I’d heard on the radio.

Song Of The Month – February 2019 – Banquet by Bloc Party

LINK TO THE VIDEO There aren’t that many black people in alternative music. We almost always get pigeonholed into hip hop, RnB, reggae etc. and as much as I love all those styles and that was what I was brought up on, I love most styles of music. I can’t quite get with Trance or Death Metal but pretty much everything in between I can appreciate for what it is.

Song Of The Month – December 2018 – Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars

LINK TO THE VIDEO The song that keeps on giving. What more can I say but it still makes me feel good? Not very Christmassy though but neither am I? It’s my birthday month so it’s time to party rather than be merry. One of my biggest memories with this song was how my little girl singing “hot damn!” every time this came on. Song Of The Month – October 2018 – The Way I Am By Eminem

LINK TO THE VIDEO Do you remember that time when Eminem was literally the most important person in whole entire world of music? I even bought Angry Blonde which was a book about his songs, the lyrics, the inspirations. I loved him but I had friends that were obsessed with him. The way these young whipper snappers are obsessed with One Direction, Fifth Harmony, Taylor Swift and even Queen Bey. I bet if we had Twitter then, they would have been hardcore trolls for him, haha, thank goodness for growing up in the Dark Ages! Follow me on YouTube to…

Song Of The Month – September 2018 – Crawling By Linkin Park

LINK TO THE VIDEO Last year, the lead singer of Linkin Park died and I had an immense feeling of grief, especially for his children, I realised that I hadn’t listened to one of my all time favourite albums, Hybrid Theory, for years. It got me through those awkward teenage years, gave me a feeling of belonging to something. The album will never sound the same again. When it first came out and for a significant amount of time after, it was literally the only album that I owned where I could listen to every single song without having to…

Song Of The Month – August 2018 – I Write Sins Not Tragedies By Panic! At The Disco

LINK TO THE VIDEO This a complete throwback of me from a different time. I remember I went through a phase of mild emo-ness. I loved it. I had a friend at school that used to write song lyrics down on paper and pass them to me in class. For ages, I thought she was some sort of philosophical poetical marvel! Turns out she was just sending me Papa Roach and Incubus lyrics. It made me realise that I wasn’t paying attention to lyrics as much as I should have! And although she never sent me this song because I’ve…

Song Of The Month – July 2018 – Ready For Love By India.Arie

LINK TO THE VIDEO I think this is the 3rd time that India Arie has popped up in my Song of the Month playlist. What can I say but she’s amazing! Songs like this make me wish I never gave up the guitar but it hurt my fingers though! Anyway, this song gives me goosebumps, it’s so sincere and beautiful. If you’ve never heard it before I suggest you listen to the words carefully, if you have heard it before, sit back, relax and be taken away to that place her voice sends you to. Goosebumps! Song Of The Month – June 2018 – Should’ve Been Us By Tori Kelly

LINK TO THE VIDEO With a voice like hers, I’m not sure why she isn’t bigger! But perhaps the market is too crowded or people just haven’t given her a chance but honestly, Tori Kelly is so amazing and that hair!! Had to mention the hair, of course! I love this song and did from the second I first heard it but I loved it even more when I saw her perform it at the VMAs a couple of years ago. I first heard of her when she was the featured singer on a Professor Green song (Lullaby) and honestly…
