Snapshot: What I’m Using – August 2020

I recently bundled in a snapshot of what I’m currently using with my length check from May and it all seemed pretty reasonable. But I don’t know what has happened since, I feel like I’m using every product I have in the house and I just need to get on top of this before I get overwhelmed.

Impromptu Trim August 2020

I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos of late. A lot! I think I may be slightly obsessed. The amount of natural hair and skincare content is overwhelming and amazing at the same time. Such things as how other people have grown their type 4 hair long. Turmeric Masks for hyperpigmentation. Reviews of products Instagram shoves down your throat like – Nuud deodorant and EZ Detangler brushes. Plus, general YouTube tea and drama. I’ve been watching so much but also taking in a fair bit of knowledge too. It is actually mostly educational…what I watch anyway. However, all of…

Twist Out 2020 (+ Mini Product Reviews): Prep

How have you been styling your hair recently? Honestly, my headwrap collection has been having a grand parade around my house while working from home. But twists, whether big fat ones to just tuck my hair away under a wrap or mini twists as my style to flaunt my fro, they are a natural go to for naturals. Well, they are for me anyway. But the thing I like the most about twists is that you can make a second hairstyle from them – The Twist Out. I haven’t yet mastered it but it’s definitely a work in progress that…

Growth

Recently, I shared a post about my hair growth, I wasn’t down on myself but I don’t think I was as positive as I could be. I said I was messing this healthy hair journey up. I said I needed to get this right again before it goes too wrong. What I didn’t do was congratulate myself on how far I’ve come! Apologies for looking so miserable above but right now I am feeling good about what’s growing out of my head.

Detangling: A Breakthrough

I finally feel like I’m starting to make some real progress with my kiddos…after just one successful wash day. Yes, we have had a detangling breakthrough. I know, I know, I’m getting ahead of myself but it could well be the sign of things to come. Minimal tears. Minimal knots. Maximum curly mum happiness! I really think we’ve cracked it this time!

Twist Fail: Last Night A Beanie Saved My Life

This is my first official twisting of my hair since I shaved it all off in November 2016. I say official, because I have twisted it as a way to section my hair before braiding a couple of times. But this was the first time it was the intended style. Although it took me a little getting used to, I really liked it! I liked how it felt to run my hand through my hair. And it also felt great knowing that this protective style was going to keep my hair moisturised and well looked after for at least a couple…

Snip, Snip, Snip: Why Trimming Is Fundamental

Trimming. I didn’t want to do it. I really didn’t want to do it. I even went on a forum asking if my “symptoms” meant I actually needed to trim. I knew they did, I just didn’t want to admit it. I DID NOT WANT TO TRIM MY HAIR. Especially since the fro was looking frolicious at my last length check.

The Inversion Method Part 1 – Upside Down You’re Turning Me…

I came across the Inversion Method on Pinterest because people claiming they can grow their hair 1 inch in 1 week is pin worthy indeed. And yes, that is what they claim. Obviously you can’t verify the timeframe of people’s before and after. But as there doesn’t seem to be a wonder product that’s being advertised, I can’t see why people would lie. Oh how gullible I am! I suppose it could be a conspiracy between all the hair oil companies in the world. However, I’ll try not to be too cynical. There are a lot more people out there…
