Speed Reviews

You may have noticed (or not), that there hasn’t been much movement with this blog for a while. Sure, my Song Of The Month posts have still been popping up, but those are scheduled until February 2021. Don’t look at me like that! I went through a very productive period last year. But for the rest of WoefulToFroFull, I don’t know exactly what it’s been – writer’s block, apathy, boredom, my usual procrastination, who knows? But now seems like as good a time as any (with the Pandemic and all) to use “some of my spare time” productively and get some sh*t done. Like a bunch of product reviews.

As much as I procrastinate, I am a completionist. I have a blog to-do list as long as the queue to get into the supermarket and if I don’t get through that in order, I won’t write anything at all. But there are so many products waiting to be roasted critiqued reviewed, I’ll have to keep it brief. Maybe even one word at times. Okay, I’m sure I can find at least one sentence for each one. However, could you please bear in mind, I tried some of these over a year ago and my memory isn’t what it used to be.

I’m going to get this done and then I can carry on with my list and review some really cool products I’ve been trying recently. And start some blog projects I’ve been wanting to get into. If you’ve used any of these products or reviewed them, let me know because honestly I may be making this up a little!

YourGoodSkin Brightening Exfoliating Wash

Really liked this. It made my skin feel clean and the exfoliating part wasn’t too harsh, quite a pleasant experience. I’ve really enjoyed using YourGoodSkin products in general.

YourGoodSkin Facial Brush

I’ve never used a facial brush before but this felt like a little bit of bathroom opulence. It worked really well with the YourGoodSkin washes and really, any face wash but it seems to take an age to dry out again. Also, it comes with a little cradle to sit in which I think is a nice touch.

Cantu Super Shine Silk

I didn’t really get the point of this product. It didn’t seem to add shine, it does have a silky, slippy texture but doesn’t seemingly add any slip. Which may not b the point as it is a finishing product but silk to me says slip I also think it may have been a bit drying. Not sure where it fits into the hair routines I’m trying to cultivate, although, any part of it that worked, worked the best on my youngest who has the finest, least dense, most defined curls. It also supposedly works as a reconstructive treatment, so I suppose I should give that a try before writing it off completely.

MySkinMatters 3-in-1 Scrub, Wash & Mask

Do products that claim to be 3-in-1 really work?  I don’t know  but I would rate this as a face wash and scrub. I didn’t actually use it as a mask but with the price being as low as it is, I’d be happy to buy it again to try. Not bad for what is basically a supermarket own brand product (Sainsbury’s).

Boots Expert Sensitive Day Cream SPF15 + Soothing Aloe Vera

I like this, especially at the price of £1.50, but it’s not moisturising enough for winter or when my skin gets super dry. Obviously having SPF in it is a positive. Biggest negative is that it never seems to be in stock in my local shop.

Pantene Gold Series Curl Defining Pudding

I got this as a full sized promotional product at Afro Hair and Beauty Live and after trying it out, I’m glad I didn’t pay for it. It dries out all of the hair types in our house like crazy but the curls, especially on my youngest’s loose curls do seem a bit more defined and for longer but is it worth the drought it causes? I think not. Not one bit.

EDEN Bodyworks Natural Deep Conditioner

I like it but I don’t love it. I was particularly put off by the fact it’s quite runny so I think it would have been better in a bottle than a tub.

EDEN Bodyworks Jojoba Monoi Shampoo

I’m not a fan of shampoo, even before I started my healthy hair journey. I just thought I had to use it but now I know better. Co-washes for the win. But as shampoos go, it is not as tangle inducing as some. When I do use them, I tend to concentrate on then scalp and let it trickle down to the rest of the hair, which is not the same situation as people who use the same technique for not washing their legs btw. This particular shampoo is very thin and runny, something I’ve not come across before.

EDEN Bodyworks Jojoba Monoi Conditioner

In contrast to the shampoo, this conditioner is too thick for the bottle. You literally have to unscrew the top and squeeze it out risking the product going all over your shower/ bath/ hair washing area. But it works, so I can forgive it for being so viscous, I suppose.

Superdrug Charcoal Gum Health Whitening Toothpaste, Mouthwash and Charcoal Toothbroush

Firstly, I swear the toothpaste and mouthwash had eucalyptus in but I couldn’t spot it on the ingredients. I wasn’t expecting to get a super Hollywood sparkling smile but there was very little to no whitening happening and to be honest, I don’t think it cleaned my teeth as well as normal toothpaste. In fact, I convinced myself for a few weeks that it was making my teeth more sensitive but that may have just been in my head. I do like the toothbrush and I’ve bought a couple more. And even if everything looks cooler in black, I’m not sure I’ll go there again.

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Styling Lotion

I don’t remember using this – I know that is not helpful at all but I would take from that that it was an experience of indifferent memorableness. But according to my notes it says it gave me one of my best twist outs ever 🤷🏾‍♀️

Hask Charcoal Mask

It is not often I say this but this mask is a definitive no from me. My hair felt wiry while I was still washing it out in the shower, unheard of. I only used half the sachet because that seemed enough, maybe it wasn’t or maybe it would have felt wirier if I’d used the whole sachet or possibly better. Who knows? Not me, because I’m probably never going back to it.

Sanctuary Spa Purifying Charcoal Shower Burst

Turns out I’ve used a lot of charcoal based products in the last year! This feels quite thick and luxurious and although it’s not permanent, the little bits of black it leaves in the shower are a little disconcerting. Also, I kind of have to like it as I bought about 6 bottles because I spotted them on clearance in Boots.

Hi-Pro-Pac Coconut Oil & African Shea Butter Moisture Hair Masque

Another one I can’t quite remember. I think I liked it. I think.

EDEN Bodyworks Jojoba Monoi Natural Hair Oil

A good hair oil and sealant, weird coming out of a spray bottle though.

YourGoodSkin Blackhead Clearing Scrub

Honestly, I really like YGS so I’ll struggle to say anything negative except it’s a bit pricey for my stingy pocket and I can’t use it everyday, so I need to have a face wash on hand too. Also, I’m not sure how I feel that all of their products revolve around you using the Skin Balancing Concentrate. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but when I finally have a proper routine of Holy Grail products, I want it to be as simple as possible. But I always feel some kind of way about not using the concentrate, like my skin is missing out. Which is crazy because I just want to wash my face.

The Skin System Creamy Face Wash

Erm, slimy. I don’t like to waste products but I can’t wait to finish this as I don’t like it. And I might just bin it. I feel like it isn’t cleaning my face properly. It just doesn’t feel nice. But I probably won’t bin it…Sorry to end on a sour note!

Oh my gosh, I feel so much better having got all that off my chest. It’s a bit longer than I anticipated but it’s done. Now I can get on with other bloggy things! Let’s see what I can (or can’t) get done now.

Let’s keep growing (and reviewing) together!
