A Forced Apology Is Better Than No Apology

My gorgeous son. My gorgeous-looks-like-butter-wouldn’t-melt-son. Well butter would melt, he’s a hot-headed little monster…at times. I love him but he can be a real handful. So he caused a scene while I was witnessing a scene, so I’ll get that first scene out of the way first. I was at the bank, one of the places that I loathe the most. It’s a completely irrational hate but it’s there nonetheless. I find it more manageable now that they have self-service machines, in fact, I love all shops more now that they do self-service. I was at the self-service (of course)…

My 1000 Word Project #2

I felt so positive after sharing my last 1000 words and was completely serious about doing it on a regular basis so here I go again. I was tempted to carry the story on from last time but I just wasn’t quite feeling it so I’ve started again. As you may notice, I have a thing about the more sci-fi, fantasy type story. Who doesn’t love a bit of The Hunger Games as jolly bedtime reading? It does feel a bit rushed to me but it also doesn’t take a long time to write a thousand words. I’ve found giving…

Learning To Love Her Learning To Read

.Maybe I sound like a bad parent but watching my daughter learn to read is one of the most frustrating processes of my life. It is enjoyable, enriching, amazing and also totally tediously exasperating. I should be extolling the obvious positives of the experience and 99% of the time I will. I’m amazed that a child, who in September, could barely recognise her name is reading stories, short as they are, by herself. Writing her name, asking for you to spell out words so she can write them, trying to form her own sentences, sounding out every new word she…

Now I Know My Hair…(cont’d)

Now where was I… So that miracle oil, coconut oil may not actually be a miracle for me with my low porosity follicles. Which is a great shame as I have about 14 jars on top of a cupboard in my house. Oops! So some say it is too heavy for my type of hair but I honestly say I am on the fence about it. I’ve had no ill effects using it, I quite like it, not just how it makes my hair feel but, and this may make me a bit of a freak, I like melting it…

Can You Make A Plastic Cap Look Cute? I Certainly Can’t!

I tried though, I really tried. It’s just like those sexy satin scarves we wear to bed, so-not-that-cute but completely essential. We are invested in our journey so a few hours with your eyes closed in the dark not looking like a supermodel are well worthwhile. That is not me saying that I look like a supermodel but you get me. The last few weeks I have been learning the amazing benefits of deep conditioning using the gorgeous plastic caps you can see me modelling and it really does make a difference. I’ve spent my life with neglected, dry hair.…

Now I Know My Hair…

I have a greater understanding of my hair now, after some tests I am pretty sure I have fine hair, low to medium density hair and low porosity hair. This a new world to me and I need to learn what all of it means. The main thing I am focusing on at the moment is the low porosity and making sure I am using the right kinds of products to keep my hair healthy, soft and moisturised. The low porosity of my hair means that the cuticles are laying flat making it much harder for moisture to penetrate, hence…

The First 4 Weeks

So 4 weeks ago, I went through with chopping all my hair off and deciding to try to be a better me. I thought I knew what this entailed but it is going to be a much longer journey than I think I could have ever anticipated. This is a lifelong change that confirms to me that your life is a work in progress. Let’s look at the main things I’ve been working on. WRITING I’ve done some writing, not my best work, but I overcame a fear and published it for the world to see, if anyone comes across…

Song of the Month

Song Of The Month – December 2016 – Light It Up (feat. Nyla & Fuse ODG) by Major Lazer

LINK TO THE VIDEO Moving into December, it is the season to be jolly and all that malarkey but I’m not one to sit and listen to Christmas music (unless it’s the 8 Days Of Christmas by Destiny’s Child, specifically Opera of the Bells). The song of the month needs to make you forget that it’s cold outside, make you feel the summer sun and this does that for me. If only I had hair to whip to this! It literally never gets old and if you were to get a little bored, there are like 5 versions of this…

My 1000 Word Project

I have been talking about my love for writing and so I suppose I should do some actual writing. To that end, I have written 1000 words of the beginning of a story which I am going to make public, here, now. I’ve said previously that when I show people unfinished work, I never then go on to finish it. The aim here is not necessarily to write a whole finished story but to write SOMETHING and let the fear go of people seeing it and judging it. Also, a thousand words seems like a reasonable way to start, I…

What Type Of Hair Do I Have? I Thought It Was Just Called An Afro!

This would have seemed like an odd question a few months ago but now I know that it is so important to better understand my actual hair. Using the most common hair typing system, there are 4 types of hair, straight, wavy, curly and kinky. Mine is definitely in the fourth category of kinky. You can break each hair type into more detailed sections, for type 4 these are commonly described as coily, crimpy and ziggly. I can’t for the life of me determine which one I am because I think I am all three in different parts of my…
