That Blog Life

Liebster Award Nominee

I am very proud to have been considered for a blogging award and to have basically been recommended by a fellow blogger. I read so many blogs and have so much respect because I know a little what goes into making them so good and just hope to increase the quality of mine as I get more experienced.

I really appreciate that someone, in this case, YorEngMama, thinks my blog is worthy of sharing so I basically need to do this Liebster thing! Also please take the time to visit YorEngMama as she is a very intelligent blogger discussing how her culture has impacted her parenting style, there are some great insights and talking points and streams of thought happening there. I like her blog as it talks about Nigerian culture which I should know more about because it is a part of who I am and I am interested to see what she can teach me. Also the pictures she uses are beautiful. Please also visit the other blogs I’ve nominated because I think they’re more than worthy of a little bit of your time.

I have been blogging for just under a year which I didn’t think was that great of an achievement until I read recently that most blogs don’t even last 100 days. That seems crazy to me, so to everyone that’s lasted that long, give yourself a pat on the back. I hope to still be posting on this blog and on my other blog Woeful Writes or if I’m lucky on both in 10, 20, 30 years or more. It’s a brilliant hobby and if it could become more, then great, but if not, I have to say, it is the best hobby I have ever had.

So I have a few questions to answer, here goes!

1. What inspires you most of all?

I get inspired by other people’s drive and success. I can’t always find the motivation to follow in their footsteps but I definitely am inspired. I see people taking their destiny into their own hands and I wish I had the oomph behind me to do it. I think starting this and my other blog is the beginning of something amazing. So I appreciate everyone that came before me and started doing this, which inspired me. I may not make a business or a brand out of this but I never want to let it go!

2. One extreme thing you’ve ever done?

I can’t say that I’m much of a thrillseeker. I like rollercoasters, I’ll try to eat most things but extreme…not really my thing. BUT I suppose I did give birth to my son with zero pain relief in my living room. AND I did it again just over 2 years later but a different living room and the second time the midwife let me have gas and air! I guess that’s kind of extreme.

3. What do you do when you are angry?

I vent to myself. I storm around. I might slam a door. I remember when I was younger I threw a bottle of lotion at a wall. That was a bad call as it exploded everywhere. That was when I realised that reacting in this way is a bit foolish. Now, I tend to talk about something I’m angry about over and over until I can feel myself calming down. I hope to get to the zen place of just breathing and counting to 10 instead, it’s easier, quicker and less annoying for my poor husband’s ears.

4. If you could have anything you want in the world what would it be?

I mean if I’m throwing stuff into the universe, a lottery win would be nice. But honestly, it would be a less stressful life. I hate that I don’t get the satisfaction from my job that I want, that I work more hours than I would like, that it takes time away from my kids, I hate that most of my wages go on childcare and a mortgage and all this stress leave me feeling, at times, very unhappy and unsatisfied. So if I could work a little less and live a little more I would  be happier. But if I look at what I’ve got, it’s not that bad, in fact, it’s pretty amazing but a little less stress would be nice.

5. Continue the phrase: ” If I were you, I…”

…would look around and realise that sometimes what you see and aspire to have isn’t real and what you have is enough. And if it isn’t, it is within your power to change that.

So here’s some blogs I think you should check out –

Pursuit Of Natural – I have to give this blog a big shout out first of all. This lovely blogger nominated me for an award a few months ago and I was a bad blogger friend and didn’t reciprocate. I was overwhelmed with life but I think she deserves a shout out. She blogs about her natural hair journey and I love her vibrant, graphic illustrations. Hey why not check out her Instagram too!

Kinky DIYctator – I’m fast becoming a super fan of this blog and for good reason too. It has loads of well written posts about hair, hair care but also diversifies into upcycling and recipes, for example, did you know you could make Coconut Oil at home? Well apparently you can, and she has all the answers. She has recently had some great posts on protective styles which I am about to start trying again as my hair gets longer and she is serving me some great inspiration.

Skatsz – I think I found this blog through the Instagram feed. I kept seeing these satin lined beanies and I wanted to find out more. Sounds like a match made in heaven, be warm, be stylish, keep your hair protected. I’m eyeing one, two, maybe three up for Christmas. But more importantly there are some great posts on general hair care. I just learnt from this blog that you can use ACV as a detangler and a killer of braid gunk. If you know, you know.

Her Majesty – On this blog, I tend to be a bit more frivolous and trivial. On my other blog, I’m writing fiction, sometimes from prompts, sometimes building on my own experiences. But something I find hard to do is truly open up. This is why I like Her Majesty. Her blog is so honest and insightful, thoughtful and delicate. I really enjoy getting her posts sent to my email because I know I will sit down, read them and feel something. This is a good one.

And finally – Couch Health & Fitness – I’ve been challenged to lose some weight, at least 10 lbs by Christmas and I need all the inspiration I can get and this blog is great for that. What I also like is that it’s not all about the triumphs, sometimes you have a bad week, you’ve just got to try again next time. Plus the tagline is about getting healthy in the comfort of your own home and the closer to my sofa I am, the better I feel.

So for my nominated bloggers, here are your questions, write a little about yourself, answer these questions and pass on the love and start checking out some new blogs –

  1. When your time comes, what do you think is out there?
  2. Describe yourself with 5 words.
  3. What is your greatest pet peeve/ thing that annoys you the most?
  4. What’s your favourite TV show and why?
  5. Why did you start blogging?

Let’s keep growing together!

  1. I didn’t know you had a writing blog! *subcribes*

#3 is me, except I just mutter to myself about it for the rest of the day. I think I do it because sometimes I’m trying to pinpoint exactly why I’m upset. I wish I could count to 10 and release–being angry is exhausting.

    #2 Wow. That’s incredible.

Thanks for the nomination! Putting together award posts is a major task, so I’m never upset when bloggers I nominate don’t have time to follow up. The most important part, to me, is in just recognizing promoting the people I read.

Gonna go check out your other nominees.

    1. Haha, it’ ok. From what I gather, you write a little introduction, answer the five questions, nominate five more bloggers, say a little about why you like them and think of 5 new questions for them. If you Google the Liebster Awards there are loads of different versions of how you complete it but this is what I was sent!! No pressure though.

  2. Wait so I was trying to like this post & the other one but I can’t seem to locate the “Like” button SOS SOS SOS!!!!
Okay I’m being dramatic, but seriously where is the “Like” button?!
