End Of Range Review: EDEN Bodyworks Natural Cleansing CoWash and Hair Masque Treatment

Have you heard of EDEN BodyWorks before? The first time I remember coming across them was in a picture of Farouk James surrounded by their products. And I thought wow! If those products contributed even just 1% to how amazing his hair looks, then surely in the quest of finding my Holy Grail products, they were worth a go!

In my product stash, I have quite a few of their products waiting to be tried. From the Peppermint Tea Tree Line to the Jojoba Monoi collection. And after trying the Coconut Shea things that I’ve tried I can’t wait to branch out and see everything they have to offer.

I tried the Natural Cleansing CoWash and Hair Masque Treatment as I was trying to sort out my wash day. I still suffer (even during this healthy hair journey) and have always suffered from dry hair. Who doesn’t want that super nourished, glossy hair you see in hair adverts? EDEN BodyWorks “provides natural products that integrate wellness and beauty inspired by nature to restore and maintain the hair and body’s original design.” Sounds like a good place to start.

Something I will commend the brand for is the short ingredient list. The main ingredients are Coconut Oil and Shea Butter of course. But I get the impression there is literally nothing in there that doesn’t need to be there. It’s pure and essential ingredients only. I think the very simple, clean packaging reflects this too. It also caused a bit of confusion in the shower while blinking water out of my eyes and trying to tell them apart!

The CoWash

I felt like the CoWash had great slip. If you’ve ever researched natural hair, something you want are products that give you slip. These aren’t always easy to find and I’m sure what works for one, won’t work for all. However, to me, this does. The instructions suggest that you detangle while this is in your hair before you rinse it out. And my hair was quite short at the time but the Denman brush literally slipped right through.

Would it be going too far to use the phrase “silky smooth”? Not after I washed it out, of course, we all know that type 4 hair likes to tangle but with the product in, amazing. And as much as I say it didn’t feel silky smooth after it was rinsed out, I definitely felt that my hair as in good condition, feeling those super soft vibes.

As a bonus, as I brushed the Denman through my hair it felt like it was laying flat and the brush was gliding straight through. I guess that’s  as close as I’m going to get to having straight hair for a while.

It does say to apply liberally. I’m a product junkie and that doesn’t just apply to how many products I have, it’s how much I use. But honestly, you don’t need to use a lot. Not to get that soft feeling. I suppose you use more it’d be even softer? Nah, doubt it. Don’t waste it unnecessarily cos this is the good stuff.

I think a huge issue with natural hair is maintenance, 1. keeping your hair detangled and 2. keeping it moisturised. Well, it does its job in the detangling field as far as I’m concerned. I was very happy with my results.

I must confess that the majority of uses with this product and the masque was while my hair was in braids. This makes it quite hard to judge how moisturising it is but when my hair was out, my hair was feeling good. I did have a bit of a hand from Apple Cider Vinegar when removing my braids (amazing detangling concoction – water and ACV) and that always helps with it feeling soft. But that first wash after taking them out was heaven.

Speaking of heaven, did I mention it smells heavenly? See what I did there? The Masque and CoWash smell similar and that’s no bad thing.

The Masque

Thicc.

I think this is the thickest product I have ever tried in my life. It’s almost like a paste? And it’s amazing. I’m a bit weird but I loved turning the tub upside down and the product NOT falling out. It’s pretty solid in there. I’d normally describe something like this as creamy but it’s beyond creamy, maybe buttery.

It’s so thick and you need to use so little, that even though both products were started at the same time, the Masque outlasted the CoWash by a good few washes.

Because it looked like it was going to last much longer and I liked what it was doing, I tried deep conditioning the kid’s hair with it too. As much as I think I do all the right things with their hair, i.e. LOC Method, sleep on satin, finger detangling etc. I’ve been a little lazy when it comes to deep conditioning but after how happy I was with this for me, I thought I’d let the babbies have a go too. As mixed race kids, they’ve not inherited my texture and between them they have 3 different textures. Luckily, all 3 liked it. Their hair felt softer and all of their varying curls seemed bouncier.

The kids, like me, liked the texture of this DC. They were able to get involved with putting it in their hair and the best thing with it being so thick, it actually ended up in their hair and not in the bath.

Also with them being in the bath, in our small family bathroom, there is plenty of steam building up in there and that can only help the DC do what it does. I’ve tried plastic caps on them but it’s a pain in the backside, so a little playtime in the bath, steam and heat will just have to do. And I think it did the trick. My middle child has a super dry scalp and this didn’t seem to make a difference. I guess, at least it didn’t make it worse. Plus fixing that problem is a whole other blog post.

Conclusion

I like it. I like it alot. EDEN BodyWorks have created simple, clean, effective products in simple, clean and communicative packaging. I think this is the exemplar of keeping it simple. Because simple, done right, works!

Let’s keep growing together!
