Brands I Would Love To Try

I’m trying my best to stop being a product junkie. I’ve spent a long time wearing this title as a badge of honour. Like I’m really doing something other than bankrupting myself.

I’ve spent so much on conditioners, shampoos, leave ins, deep conditioners, just everything hair product related. But I’m turning over a new leaf and I’m going to be a good girl and consume less. At least for the next year or so. However…since I started thinking with this mindset, I’ve spent more and more time browsing hair websites like Kiyo Beauty, Naturalistic Products, Antidote Street, Detangled Hair, even just eBay. I think I’m living vicariously through those pages. I’m thinking of all the things I can’t buy now but can buy when my self imposed ban ends.

But this is no longer the time for experimentation, it’s the time for consistency. I’ve really started to find what works for me and the kids. And if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it. Or in this case – if it works, don’t buy that conditioner as it might stunt your progress. But I can’t stop browsing researching. And after a year of browsing researching, I should have some pretty good contenders to add to the mix in the future. Super thoughtful and considered purchases that can enhance the fine tuned routine I’ll have going by then. Perhaps, in a year, I won’t want to add anything new into the mix but if I do – here’s what I’ll be interested in:

Curlsmith

Curlsmith is a little pricey for some of the sizes but the reviews are pretty damn good. At first I was a little sceptical because it’s one of those brands that gets pushed a lot in IG ads but I’ve seen people in the groups I use and trust and I *assume* they aren’t brand ambassadors and they swear by Curlsmith. But the price…oof! I might want it, I don’t know if I can afford it 😂.

If I do buy it, the above three products would be what I go with. I love a kit where they bundle the products how they think they’ll work best. It takes a lot of guessing and thinking out of the equation. They also have varying sizes of products so you can sort of test on a smaller, cheaper amount if you’re unsure. Pictured above is the Coily Kit, basically an LCO kit which was £57 at the time of writing. It contains:

  • Curl Quenching Conditioning Wash (350ml, £21) – sounds superb
  • Curl Conditioning Oil-in-Cream (227g, £22) – sounds sensible
  • Intense Treatment Serum (115g, £29) – sounds serious!

Gina Knight

I’ve been following Gina for a while. I’ve been coveting her wigs since she was known as The Wig Witch. She’d already made a name for herself in the blogging/ IG world by the time I discovered her so I’ve always been impressed with what she’s been doing. As a blogger, as a mother, entrepreneur and now as she shifts into mogul mode. A whole hair care line in 2021, that’s huge!

And the best thing is, I don’t need to buy a wig to use it. But I will…when I have the readies ready. Perhaps after a year of only buying what I need for my hair, I might have a little bit more to spend on what I want – a Gina Knight Wig Design wig. In the meantime, her hair care products are for wigs but also your natural hair. So I hope I can find a way to support.

Dizziak

Whenever I think of Dizziak, I think of the big, bold, black, graphic logo and their Deep Conditioner. To be fair, they have quite a small range – a wash and a DC. That’s not a negative though, if you do a good job at the things you put out, you can keep things simple. Dizziak is your wash day sorted – Hydration Wash and Deep Conditioner. It’s British owned like the majority of this list which is just another tick in the box.

Again, it’s a bit on the pricier end like Curlsmith but sometimes, you get what you pay for. And sometimes you get what you deserve. And sometimes, both of those things can be good.

Trepadora

I’ve actually tried a Trepadora product before – the Inca Radiance Smoothing Elixir which I actually got when British Curlies closed down. I believe the owner of British Curlies created Trepadora and when I bought from their closing down sale, there were some Trepadora samples in the delivery. A clever move.

However as I’ve demonstrated, I’m cheap 😂. And the brands I’m talking about in this post are starting to get on the high end and Trepadora is definitely up there. As you see, the Hydrating Trio pictured above is £121.50 for 3 x 500ml products. But every now and then you have to push the boat out and spend a little more. Or is that just the product junkie in me trying to get out again?

Sometimes there is a reason things are expensive. Even if they’re selling their products in the same bottles my kids get their eczema cream in! Just saying…

Almocado

What I love about the idea of Almocado is the simplicity of building all their products around Almonds and Avocado. Oh, didn’t you notice – Almond + Avocado = Almocado! And something I love is that they cater for loc’d hair too! I don’t personally have locs, obviously, but my Mum does. And as much as she can probably use a lot of products I use, they’re not targeted at her. This brand will definitely work for her Sisterlocks and it will probably work for me too!

And I find it even more amazing as it’s a brand created by an Alopecian, the beautiful lady in the front, Annette Clark Headley. I forgot to mention Gina Knight also suffers from hair loss which I believe sparked her interest in wigs. I love that these ladies are helping out all of us in the community to have great hair or finding alternative solutions. And creating businesses for themselves and opportunities for our hair to shine!

Even though Annette may not be able to benefit directly, she still shares her love for hair care and mixing her passion for hair and expertise in aromatherapy and chemistry to create products that help you to do what the tagline says – Love Your Hair. Plus it’s British, family owned and reasonably priced. Oh, and I forgot to mention, you can also customise your choices by paying extra for fragrance, nut or protein free versions.

And that seems like a good place to end. But I couldn’t really stop here (I’m still a product junkie of sorts) – more brands I’d love to try coming up next week in part 2!

Let’s keep growing together!
