Product Junkies Unite 2017 – All The Stuff I Get To Try This Year

I actually meant to write this post at the beginning of the year but I suppose the procrastinator in me has reared her ugly head a little bit. Better late than never I suppose. It’s time to let out my inner product junkie.

It’s so easy to become a product junkie when you’ve decided to go a new direction with your hair. Or you can be like me and any excuse to fill a cupboard will do. You want to try anything and everything, you fall for the claims of products when you know better. And it’s even easier to fall into the trap if you are a bit of a novice like me. However, I feel I have been fairly sensible. Really?! Looking at my plethora of products it doesn’t necessarily look that way. Even though I have a lot of stuff to try, a lot of it was bought as gifts from family to help me in the early stages of my journey (thank you very much) or has been sitting in the back of the cupboard for a while.

Depressing fact – there is probably more money in the products under my bathroom sink than there is in my bank account. How sad is that? I’ve started using some of them already but I am looking forward to using them correctly and consistently for a length of time to really see how well they work. I’m not sure I’ll be getting round to the shampoos this year though. I only use shampoo once a fortnight and I have very little hair, it’s going a really long way.

Turns out I am mostly loving my short hair but also I’m annoyed that because it is so short it’ll take about 2 years to get through a bottle of anything! Why does that make me so sad? My mentality should actually be “enjoy the short hair while you can because it’ll be sooo long soon and you’ll be complaining about how expensive it is to look after!”

I will try my best not to buy much more. I can’t promise anything, but I will need to re-stock my essentials like Shea Butter and oil supplies. Let’s see how my willpower does.

So here’s the list –

And I’m sure there are probably a few more full, unopened bottles, tubs and jars that I’ve somehow misplaced.

Now a lot of these products were bought in the US by my Mum on a recent trip there. I can’t just walk into my local shop and buy some of them again. However, I have just discovered CurlBay.com who sell all of the type of products you see American girls using, here in the UK , obviously I will need to a bit more research on other websites that are for hair like mine, in the UK, US, all over the world. There’s always eBay and Amazon if I get a bit stuck but nothing beats a specialist website that you can trust. I just wish there were shops like this on MY high street.

I asked my brother to buy me any SheaMoisture product for Christmas and the struggle was real. It may have been partly because he is a boy who’s not into hair and he didn’t know where to go but poor lad came back from a long day shopping empty-handed. Availability is a problem. Maybe I don’t want to wait for a parcel to arrive at my door, maybe I want it now, now, now! palmer's carol's daughter aloe era juice

This is when DIYing products really comes into its own because once I have ingredients in (which I like to buy in bulk) I can just make what I want when I want. Considering most DIY products have Coconut Oil or Shea Butter in, I could literally make it right now! Maybe I’ll do a post in a few months of bought products vs DIY. I think there is more satisfaction from using something you have made and there being a good result but sometimes the convenience of just opening a jar is more compelling.

Anyway I will keep you posted as I plough through my treasure trove! And I suppose I can share with the kids…

Let’s keep growing (and stop buying so much) together! Or at least try, really, really hard!

  1. I haven’t tried any of these, but I have tried some Shea moisture products. I like the Jamaican black castor hair masque by Shea moisture. I look forward to trying their clear start shampoo (I forgot what line it is) and their rose hair masque. I like the creme of nature shampoo with Argan oil and the palmer’s moisturizing hair oil :). I’m cutting back too, from now I’m using only what I have.
